A medieval town on the Tyrrhenian coast, overlooked by the Rocca and facing the sea. Its Cathedral, commissioned by Roger II, is part of the UNESCO site "Arab-Norman Palermo and the Cathedral Churches of Cefalù and Monreale" (2015).
In 3 days: Cefalù or Mondello.
What to see
- Duomo: Norman cathedral commissioned by Roger II, with the Christ Pantocrator mosaic, a cloister and a Romanesque baptismal font.
- La Rocca e il Tempio di Diana: Rocky massif rising up to 270 m, topped by the so-called Temple of Diana, a megalithic structure linked to water worship.
- Museo Mandralisca: Home to Antonello da Messina's "Portrait of an Unknown Man".
- Lavatoio medievale: Medieval wash-house carved into the rock, fed by the Cefalino river through cast-iron spouts, some shaped like lion heads.
- Lungomare e scogliera: Seafront promenade with a lit rocky coastal path and a pier.
