Caccamo is a village in the province of Palermo dominated by a large medieval castle perched on a rock above the San Leonardo river valley. The castle, among the largest on the island, is owned by the Sicilian Region and has been managed by the municipality since 2019.

Reachable by car only.

What to see

  • Castello di Caccamo: Probably born as an Arab fortress, built in Norman form in the 12th century (Matteo Bonello), reworked by the Chiaramonte in the 14th century and later turned into a noble residence by the Amato family; transferred to the Region in 1963.
  • Borgo medievale: The old town below the castle, best explored on foot (tourist info point run by the Comune).
